About

Working together for our community

Te Hau o Te Ora is an official partnership between Awarua Rūnaka, Hokonui Rūnanga and WellSouth Primary Health Network.

The name Te Hau o Te Ora was gifted by Hokonui Rūnanga and means ‘the breath of new life’, signifying hope, health and wellbeing and manaakitanga.

The partnership was established early 2021 with the shared goal to provide primary care services (general practice) to meet the needs to the unenrolled residents of Waihōpai, especially unenrolled Māori.

We work closely with our joint venture partners to ensure our patients receive access to all support we are able to collectively provide.

  • Awarua Whānau Services is a Kaupapa Māori service that provides for whānau wellbeing through a range of social, education and health services.

  • Hokonui Rūnanga is one of 18 rūnanga of Ngāi Tahu. It provides wellbeing for members through guidance and management of their spiritual, cultural, educational, moral, social and economic needs.

  • WellSouth Primary Health Network is the local primary health organisation for Otago and Southland. It funds and supports primary care providers and a wide range of programmes in primary care.

We believe everyone deserves to achieve and maintain wellness.

At Te Hau o Te Ora we seek to provide equitable healthcare, that is accessible to all members of our community. That means providing a wraparound service that helps patients and whānau connect with the services they need, in the right place, at the right time.

We take a holistic view of health and wellbeing, and focus on proactive and preventative care, as well as urgent and unplanned care for those who need it.

We know that each patient’s healthcare journey is unique, so our approach is not one-size-fits-all. We take the time to ask questions and listen to every patient to truly understand their needs and concerns, and then cater to those in the best way possible.

Our Vision - A healthy thriving Murihiku

Our Mission - To enable access to whānau centred care
